Applied Kinesiology - What is it?

"Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a holistic examination procedure based on manual testing of muscles.

It focuses especially on muscle function: that is, does the nervous system activate a muscle at the right time and with the right force?

In other words, we test the adaptive capacity of the muscles, which is known as adaptive strength .

It was first named in 2011 by the team at the Chair of Regulatory Physiology and Prevention at the University of Potsdam under the direction of Professor Frank Bittmann."

(Adaptive strength: first description of a neuromuscular function that has received little attention to date. German Journal of Sports Medicine, Volume 62 No. 7-8, 254).

Applied kinesiology was developed in the 1960s by George Goodheart.

It should not be confused with "kinesiology", which has its origins in applied kinesiology but differs significantly in content and represents a reduced version.

How can Applied Kinesiology help me with my health?

Adaptive strength testing examines the response of the nervous system and muscles to an external stimulus.

If this response is altered, the muscle is weak in response to external stimuli.

Weak muscles therefore lead to a decrease in the joint's load-bearing capacity (guidance or stability) and thus to an overload of ligaments, tendons, fascia, capsules, bones and cartilage. With the help of this muscle test, the best therapy can also be determined and its effects checked.

Applied kinesiology thus explains the appearance of joint pain during daily movements or sudden onset, temporary healing successes or recurring problems.

In these cases, restoring adaptive strength alone has often succeeded in restoring/improving health, and with lasting effect.
